Gun barrel cleaning equipment

Since 2005, Polartherm has manufactured patented systems for cleaning and de-coppering gun barrels.

Removing copper, residue from the rotating ring widely used in modern ordnance, cannot be done mechanically without damaging the barrel base metal.  Polartherm provides a chemical method to oxidize the copper and remove the oxides during the process.  The system is fully automatic, requiring 1 to 2 persons to set up and one to oversee the operation. 

NOTE: there is no need to remove the barrel from turret/carriage!

Cleaning method

A shaft-less brush is inserted in the barrel and breech and muzzle ends of the barrel are plugged with adapters.

The patented cleaner solvent is pumped through the barrel in reciprocate directions.  The solvent removes the copper and hydraulically moves the brush.  Residue is collected in the filter bag in the solvent tank.

Depending on the amount of deposits in the barrel, the cleaning process takes 45 to 90 minutes to complete.  Setup and takedown times are about 10 minutes each.

The cleaner can easily be tailored to match Customer needs to any size of barrel from 20 mm upwards, for Field Artillery, Naval guns and Aircraft armament.
